Summary
After testing my initial GTD template, I revised it into version 2 to solve issues with unclear categories and overlapping tasks.
The process was like this.
- write everything down.
- categorize each 'thing' in to four : able to do in two minutes / not actionable / schedule it / part of a project
- scheduling.
- able to do in two minutes → do it right away
- not actionable → forget about it for now.
- schedule it → choose a date to do it, or select a right situation to do it. (ex. 'phone', 'when I'm out of things to do')
- part of a project → care about it when you're doing that project.
But as I used this for about 3 days, I came across with some uncomfortable stuff in this system.
- 'things can't be always classified in one category. For example, there are things I want to put it in the 'project' box, but also want to set a date to do it. My system wasn't able to do both.
- I sometimes found myself thinking 'what should go where'. which I think it shouldn't happen, because this system is suppose to increase my productivity. Not give me new problems. which goes like, "should this go in the 'not actionable' box, or the 'project' box?”
So, I built a ver.2 template of mine, trying to remove these problems.
